President’s Message

On March 3 we held our Annual General Meeting, taking care of reporting to the membership on our activities and finances. Short summary: all is well. Thank you to the board members who are continuing and much appreciation to Harris Hanson, Sam Plucer, and Kevin Taylor who are stepping down from the board after years of service, they have made significant contributions to the wellbeing of our neighbourhoods.

Thanks to all who came out, and special thanks to our guest speaker Rob Ward, our Ward 11 Councillor. He addresses all questions head on and it’s great to have his involvement.

We added our support to a letter from a whole bunch of community associations to City Council in support of repealing the Blanket Rezoning bylaw. As I write this the March hearing hasn’t happened yet, but we’ll continue adding our voice to this important issue to keep our communities manageable and having density in places where it makes sense.

Always exploring what programs and activities our communities want to see – in March we offered a Home Alone course through Child Safe Canada to teach children from ages 9 to 11 how to be safe when alone at home. PBP supplied the hall, and we offered the course at cost to community members. As a follow up we are looking at a babysitting course in mid-May.

In April, activities will include a bike swap and various bike safety activities, test ride opportunities, and more. Watch for more details on the website and newsletter.

Our casino is April 21 and 22 and we’re all set, we will report back next month.

We have decided not to participate in the City’s Community Cleanup Day program this year, it’s a very big job to put it on so we will skip this year, but we may do a smaller scale drop off later in the summer.

Email me anytime with comments, questions, or concerns. We welcome anyone to come to our meetings and share your ideas or concerns. We meet the first Tuesday of all but the two summer months at the hall, please just drop a note in advance so we know to make some room for you on the agenda.
