President’s Message

March is a month of contrasts – warm, cold, wet, dry. Just like the winter this year!

The board has been very busy. Over the last month we’ve been planning for and delivering the March 3 Annual General Meeting. There are many governance, administrative, and maintenance needs that the board carries and oversees, but it is an interesting volunteer job, a great way to keep in touch with goings on, and to make a difference!

We are always exploring what programs and activities our communities want to see. We are a mixed community with people of all life stages, interests, housing types, and lifestyles, and a small community hall that is rented out most of the time and available to book for a variety of events. And we have a small but enthusiastic group of volunteers.

We welcome anyone to come to our meetings and share your ideas or concerns. We meet the first Tuesday of all but the two summer months at the hall, please just drop a note in advance so we know to make some room for you on the agenda.

Some new (to us) programs coming up and they look like they’ll be popular. Child Safe Canada provides several safety-oriented courses, and we will be offering a Home Alone course to teach children from ages 9 to 11 how to be safe when alone at home. The course is two hours long, from 10:00 am to noon on March 14. Child Safe supplies an instructor, manuals for each student, and a certificate upon completion. PBP would supply the hall, and we can then supply the course at cost to community members. Member price is $30, non-members at $35 per student. As a follow up we are looking at a babysitting course in mid-May.

Once spring is here, we will be offering one or two bike weekends April 11 and 18. Activities will include a bike swap and various bike safety activities, test ride opportunities, and more. Watch for more details on the website.

We’ll be watching with interest the public hearing this month to consider replacing blanket rezoning.

Our casino is April 21 and 22 and the volunteer roster is coming along nicely, although we could still use a few more! This is a great way to contribute to the community in a way that helps finance all the ideas and maintenance needs of our space.

Email me anytime with comments, questions or concerns.
