Greetings, isn’t it great to see how quickly our days are getting longer!
Taking an opportunity here to give a shout out to our wonderful rink volunteers, they keep our outdoor rink in great shape, Trevor and the team are excellent. We really thank them for the quick action and tons of mopping up help on Boxing Day when the pipe that floods the rink broke and there was lots of water seeping into the main hall. Along with our community coordinator Jen, they all went above and beyond, and severe damage was prevented.
As well as our work on facility upkeep and developing programs, part of our mandate as the PBPCA board is to participate and advocate for our community with all City initiatives. At the January PBPCA board meeting we were appreciative to have a visit from our new Ward 11 councillor, Rob Ward.
Rob spoke with us about his first few months in office, his and Council’s priorities and emphasis on core services. Infrastructure, policing, firefighting capability, and general safety will be his focus for his term; these basics need attention and support before considering any growth projects. Of course, our questions included queries about the future of water assets and infrastructure. Hopefully by the time you read this the January water main crisis will have been fully addressed, however we have several years of remedial and renewal work in front of us and will likely have intermittent restrictions of some sort in years ahead. Rob suggested it will be valuable for all of our households to implement some form of rainwater capturing for our gardens to supplement City water.
Also mentioned is the upcoming item to replace blanket rezoning, with the public hearing in March anticipated to be at least as long and busy as the previous one! We’ll be watching and participating with interest.
Rob’s final word was to contact him with any questions or concerns. He strongly suggests contacting 3-1-1 by phone or online with concerns as the first step. When you do that, a Service Record number is assigned and when you contact Rob’s office with that number, it enables him to follow up directly with the department confirmed, speeding things up.
I will mention again – we have been approved for a casino April 21 to 22 and will need volunteers! This is a great way to contribute to the community in a way that helps finance all the ideas and maintenance needs of our space.
Our Annual General Meeting is Tuesday, March 3 at 7:00 pm, PBP hall, 2323 Palliser Drive. Please join us!
Email me anytime with comments, questions or concerns.
