What a tremendous day. The sun shone, the vehicles lined up, and everyone was wearing a smile!
While the final numbers for collection are not yet available, the amazing results are obvious. In five hours, we filled very large metal and wood bins, filled a truck for the Drop-In Centre, collected a significant amount of electronics for recycling, made a dozen home pick-ups for seniors, delivered several dozen tires to OK Tire, collected over 25 bikes and $150 for Bicycles for Humanity, and the Girl Guides collected a large number of bottles in their door to door pick-up service. The best part is that all of these items are being recycled and have been diverted from the landfill.
A huge thank-you goes out to our 52 community volunteers. We could not have done it without them and are very appreciative of their volunteer spirit.
We also could not have enjoyed such a successful day without the support of the community businesses that share in the spirit of our community. They include:
• Richmond Road Safeway for a very generous gift that fed our volunteers, and for Frank and Sarah, two Safeway employees who did an admirable job working the trucks.
• Greg W. from Performance Waste for supplying metal and wood bins that saved so much from ending up in the landfill.
• Lynn, Lia, Myles, and Riley and their trucks for the Good Neighbor Pick-Up Service.
• OK Tire Richmond Road for accepting our tires.
• Bicycles for Humanity for the important work they do in collecting, servicing, and shipping bikes to communities in need.
• Shanked Computer Recycling and Alberta Recycling for their grant program.
• Girl Guides for their bottle drive.
• Gayle F. for providing pizza for the volunteer crew at the end of the day.
