Development and Traffic Report

I would just like to highlight what has been happening behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:

·         Dave R (Currie Liaison) and I had a very productive meeting with Leah from Canada Lands. We reiterated our concerns that minimum parking requirements, minimum setbacks, and maximum building heights be met for all new development. We asked that this be shared with all the developers. They are currently looking at a new Outline Plan for the Currie High Street area and will be engaging with residents in a few months. There are not any developers interested in building tall towers at this point, so the maximum height will likely be 18 storeys. They will be establishing guidelines to ensure that the Currie Core provides unique and interesting retail.

·         We have applied for an additional CFEP grant for $235,000 to help with the Hall rebuild. If we are not successful, I have already reached out to Councillor Schmidt and Mayor Farkas to ask them to look into additional potential funding options for us.

·         The City agreed to do some additional engagement with regards to the final plan for Richmond Green Regional Park. Unfortunately, input was restricted to only an in-person event. We have been advocating for the cricket net that was promised, adding tennis courts to Killarney if they are being replaced at Richmond Green, providing some sort of cycling component to the park, and making sure that people using the walking path are safe from Frisbees being thrown for disc golf.

·         ATCO Lands public engagement occurred in March. Our input included density and building height caps, as well as seeking a guarantee for a residential core.

·         The RPCA has signed a multi-community letter supporting the repeal of blanket rezoning and asking Council to conduct further engagement as they make changes to the Land Use Bylaw.

·         Thank-you Tyler S. and our rink volunteers for all your efforts with the rink this year! Much appreciated.

·         We have been given Casino dates of June 2 and 3. Peter F. will be reaching out looking for volunteers. Thank you for considering us for your volunteer time.

·         Quick update for the Sarina Homes development on Richmond Green—Building one is anticipated to be finished in Q2 of 2027. Building two will start this year as well. Townhomes will start in 2027. Site completion is anticipated to be the end of 2028. The next disruption will be this spring as they work on asphalt and sidewalks. We appreciate them keeping us updated.
