I would just like to highlight what has been happening/going on behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:
Thank you, Steve D. and our ice rink volunteers for your many hours of service! Our rink is closed for the season.
Thank you, Peter F. and all our casino volunteers! We raised a record $82,956.03 at our casino this year! Great timing for our hall rebuild!
I met with the Executive Director of the Federation of Calgary Communities. We have asked that the FCC raise concerns with regards to the engagement process/model that the City is using. The FCC will focus on asking the City to revamp the process as Council has directed. We have provided two specific examples for them to use in their communication—the sale and development of Richmond Green, and the derailed engagement process for GamePLAN.
We have run out of time to settle our hall insurance claim. We have reached the two-year mark and filed a Statement of Claim with the Courts for over $600,000. Unfortunately, an engineering report shows that there were pre-existing deficiencies with the floor system, so the insurer did not budge much off of their original offer. As we do not have the funds to sue them in court, we have settled for less than $100,000. At least now we can move forward with the engineering process and apply for grants to help us rebuild. This has been a long and arduous process, and we are not there yet. We will be putting a call out for short-term assistance (i.e. moving things from the hall to the sea can) and appreciate your support and continued patience. Thank you.
Save the Date – Our Community Cleanup will be September 13 this year. Thank you, Rosa M. for submitting our application!
Neighbour Day will be June 21 this year. Danny Greene has indicated an interest in organizing this event again and will be looking for volunteers.
Canada Lands will be making some changes to the CFB West Master Outline Plan in order to preserve some buildings and reduce the size of the business area. We will continue to share updates via our e-newsletter and Facebook page.
If you have not already signed up for our email updates, please do so at our website, www.rutlandparkcommunity.com. The City often gives us very short notice for upcoming events, and this is the quickest way for us to reach you. Please also join us on Facebook—Rutland Park Community Association. Thank you for your ongoing support.
