I would just like to highlight what has been happening/going on behind the scenes this past month, in no particular order:
We have not had any formal response from the City with our ongoing concerns regarding the potential sale of the Richmond Green baseball diamonds. We are still waiting on a response from a formal 311 request for particulars around potential stormwater impact if this site is developed. This site forms part of the stormwater management for the CFB West Master Plan. (We want to avoid a potential Highland Park Golf Course situation where the City is being sued because developing the land there will cause flooding.) Future water reservoir expansion in the remaining park space will contribute to its impermeability, so we want to know what the impact will be.
We are still looking for a Treasurer to join us. I am currently acting Treasurer and am working to complete our audit and set up standards moving forward. We have a paid bookkeeper, so we really just need someone who is organized to write cheques and reconcile our bank statements. The time commitment should be about an hour a week and attending a two-hour monthly meeting. Please consider joining us!
Save the Dates: Community Clean Up, Saturday, June 4, from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm and Neighbour Day, Saturday, June 18 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm. Hope to see you at these events!
At the time of writing, we are hoping to get our Volunteer Appreciation organized for April. Hopefully, we were able to host this event. If not, we will aim for May.
Development applications tend to pick up in the spring. We have seen several contextual development applications for Rutland Park, so some new homes will be built. We have also supported the Canada Lands application for the historic site near the playground. Things are starting to shape up in Currie!
Chinooks Grass Roots Soccer (for younger players) runs their programs out of the green space by our Hall. Registration is open for their programs. You can find more information here at https://www.chinooksoccer.com/grassrootregister.
Our Hall and Skateshack are available for booking. Check out our website for more information at https://www.rutlandparkcommunity.com/rentals.
If you have not already signed up for our email updates, please do so at our website, rutlandparkcommunity.com. The City often gives us very short notice for upcoming events, and this is the quickest way for us to reach you. Please also join us on Facebook @Rutland Park Community Association. Thank you for your ongoing support.
