Community Connector Message
Building a community where everyone belongs starts with simple connections. Over the past months, I’ve had the privilege of meeting many of you—and even introducing some of you to your neighbours! Each of us brings unique passions, skills, and experiences that enrich Shawnee Evergreen. I’d love to hear about what matters to you—your interests, ideas, and vision for our community.
Let’s connect over a coffee or tea or take a walk together (kids and furry friends are always welcome!). Reach out anytime—Anya at [email protected]. I look forward to getting to know you.
55+ Programs
Our fall programming continues every Thursday! Join us for an hour of active classes followed by social and hobby time. Visit https://bit.ly/seca55 to see the full calendar or email Clayton, our Seniors Coordinator at [email protected] or 1-888-487-2010.

Community Campfires
Our seasonal campfires return the fourth Saturday of each month, 4:00 to 6:00 pm beginning in December. We’d like to cook up something new rather than more hotdogs—what tasty foods would you like to roast over the fire? Mark your calendars: December 27, January 24, February 28, March 28, and April 25, and watch for posters on Libraries and on the A-Frames poster displays in the park for event details.
Join Our Volunteer Team!
We’re looking for two to three lead volunteers to manage the food aspects of our Community Campfires. We will provide plans and generous mentorship — just bring your energy and ideas! It’s a fun way to connect with neighbours and make a difference. You’ll be glad you did! Express your interest at https://tinyurl.com/SECAvolunteer or use the QR code.

Little Free Libraries
Thanks to those who donated books at the Community Cleanup, our libraries are brimming with reads! We are thrilled to announce a new Library in the Fairways Villas North part of our community. Find it on the north side of the “Tennis Court Park”. A special thank you to Tom, who built this library for SECA, his third! Thanks also to Debbie and Lorraine for securing the City permit. When we share the work, it’s amazing what we can accomplish!
Annual General Meeting
Thank you to everyone who attended our AGM on October 27. It was wonderful to see the warm conversations of neighbours connecting during the pre-meeting social time. At the meeting, residents learned about SECA’s 2025 activities and what’s planned for 2026.
We also appreciated our guest speakers from the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC), who shared updates on a potential Transit-Oriented Communities development at Fish Creek–Lacombe station. Planning and community engagement will continue through 2026, and your input will be vital. Receive the latest updates from CMLC by subscribing to their Fish Creek-Lacombe project newsletter

Community Cleanup and Food Drive
This year’s Community Cleanup (CCU) on September 20, was another great success, thanks to our dedicated volunteers and supporters. We helped Calgarians responsibly dispose of tons of oversized black bin items and facilitated the diversion of tons of metal, tires, and electronics from landfills. We also provided a venue for two charities, Cerebral Palsy Alberta and the Calgary Flames Sports Bank, to collect goods.
As the CCU coincided with a City-Wide Food Drive campaign by the Calgary Food Bank, we invited Calgarians at the event to donate online, directly to the Food Bank. SECA matched the donations and contributed an additional donation of our own, using leftover grant dollars. With the Food Bank’s partners turning each dollar donated into $3.50 worth of food, SECA’s initiative resulted in nearly $2,000 worth of nutritious food for needy Calgarians. Together, we’ve shown the spirit of giving and the power of community are strong in Shawnee Evergreen. You can give online anytime at https://tinyurl.com/SECA-Food-Bank2025 or use the QR code.

Be Part of It!
Together, we’re building a stronger, friendlier, more connected community.
