President’s Message
The
March meeting of the Association’s Board of Directors was refreshingly back to
the norms that we have come to expect. Far less focused on populating necessary
positions and more focused on operations and event planning. I’m not saying
that we have a full Board. There are still several outstanding positions that
need filling. Actually, our Bylaws limit the number of directors to fifteen,
while we currently have seven, with a minimum number of six. As you can tell, there’s
lots of room on the Board. We welcome you to join us.
Recently,
much of the focus of our Ward Six communities was on the March 23 meeting at
City Hall with the motion to repeal the blanket rezoning implemented by
previous council. This was an explosive issue. Both the Mayor and our Ward Six
Counsellor actually used the abolition of Blanket rezoning as principal planks
on their election campaign. This was an issue people are passionate about. They
still will be. As a Board, we felt it important that we not take sides. Our
community is too large to have collectively come up with a definitive answer
for all 7,000 households in our community. The nature of communities’ change, and
it remains to be seen what the future has in store for our community. Perhaps
someday we will be considered inner-city. Probably in the same way that I have
to remember that I am a senior citizen.
Speaking
of change, did you have friends who were in the boil water belt? Are you able
to cope with the water restrictions that were placed on the city? It impacts
our Association facilities too. Spring may have to start a little bit later,
but we do not anticipate it to affect any events or programs that we will be
running on-site. If it does, you can keep informed through our website. With
the interesting weather we had last month, I’m not sure what forbodes with our
activity planned as we enter spring and summer.
