President’s Message
I am pleasantly surprised with the positive responses that we have received regarding service on the Board of Directors. In January two more Directors were added. We also had three more reaching out to serve on the board. I am interviewing these candidates to see if their circumstances will fit well with our needs. There are still some critical areas that we need directors to exercise oversight and help stimulate more activity.
What Happened to Winter?
Prior to our February board meeting we had to shut down our winter skating programs due to the unseasonal warmth. Although we had a few days of winter return mid-February, the few days of cold and snow were not enough to build a proper ice surface. This month can sometimes catch you off-guard with a cold snap, just not this year.
We had the pleasure of meeting our new Ward 6 Councillor, John Pantazopoulos, along with Harrison Taylor, a staffer from the Ward 6 Office. John was able to share his priorities for Ward 6, and we discussed how we desire to provide meaningful dialogue between the Community Association and the Councillor’s office. This working relationship is of highest importance; therefore, it is important to keep our relationship healthy. If you are curious about John’s stance on current goings on at City Hall, he always provides a message through his journal.
One of our close community partners is working hard to raise funds for upgrading the playgrounds at Battalion Park Schools. We are exploring ways to support this endeavour, reach out to the Signal Hill School Enhancement Society if you think you can personally provide support for the kids in our community. Of course, the primary benefit of these playgrounds will be for the students that attend the schools at Battalion Park. There are other kids who live in Signal Hill that also use the playgrounds. While donations are the obvious way of supporting this project, there are ways you can add your signature to the project – reach out to them.
