The past few months have been very busy for the Somerset Bridlewood Community Association!

Our 2025 Winter Celebration was a huge success! Thanks to our hardworking board, a team of amazing volunteers, and a network of businesses and organizations that went above and beyond to offer support, we were able to host 280 attendees for an afternoon of activities, crafts, treats, and, of course, a visit from Santa!

We would like to extend our gratitude to the following sponsors:

• Somerset School

• Mona Kapoor Community Realtor

• City of Calgary Recreation and Social Programs

• Pur and Simple – Buffalo Run

• Calgary-Shaw MLA Rebecca Schulz

• Calgary-Lougheed MLA Eric Bouchard

• Marble Slab – Shawnessy

• Hudson’s Pub – Shawnessy

• London Drugs – Shawnessy

• Superstore – Shawnessy

• Shoppers Drug Mart – Evergreen

• Spirit of Physiotherapy and Massage – Bridlewood

• Learning Tree Dayhome – Bridlewood

• COBS Bread – Shawnessy

• Somerset Crossing Family Dental

• Wendy’s – Shawnessy

We would also like to thank Doodles by Pooja and Star Lounge 360 Photo Booth for their services during the event.

The Somerset Bridlewood Community Association held our annual Community Cleanup event on September 20 and collected 6,745 kg of waste. Other items were diverted to recycling and donation. A big thank you to our partners for making our community cleanup event happen: City of Calgary, Glenmore Christian Academy, Shanked Computer Recycling, ALCOP Resource Recycling Inc., Tom’s House of Pizza, MLA Calgary-Lougheed, Ukrainian Office – and of course our hardworking and tireless event volunteers!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the South Calgary Wellness Fair on October 18 at Cardel Rec South! The Somerset Bridlewood Community Association hosted a table at the Fair and visited with many attendees, letting everyone know about the events we host and the benefits of membership. Kudos to volunteers Alberto, Sarah, and Michelle for working our table at the Fair!

The Somerset Bridlewood Community Association was pleased to be a part of the Repair Exchange event held by The Arusha Centre and The Trellis Society on November 1 at Cardel Rec South. During Repair Exchanges, participants are encouraged to bring items such as clothing, small appliances, and bicycles for volunteer fixers to repair (where possible) and share knowledge. It is a way to keep many items out of the landfill, save money, and to demonstrate the skills needed so that people can fix these items on their own. The skills and dedication of volunteer fixers were fantastic to see, and nearly all our attendees went home happy with items that were fixable and good-as-new. Thank you to the organizers and volunteers from The Arusha Centre and The Trellis Society, and to Michelle and Danielle from the Somerset Bridlewood Community Association for volunteering as fixers. We hope to hold another Repair Exchange event in the spring, so please keep on top of our socials and watch for the date!

The Somerset Bridlewood Community Association was delighted to host a table at Cardel Rec South’s annual Skate with Santa party on December 22. Sheryl had a blast giving out candy canes and colouring sheets to the kids in attendance.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Coco Brooks fundraiser in February – your orders of delicious food will help us with maintenance and upkeep of our community garden this year.

The Somerset Bridlewood Community Association is actively seeking new board members! If you are interested in Grant Writing and Fundraising, consider contributing your talent and enthusiasm to our team. We will support you in your volunteer work with us, so you don’t have to feel that the commitment is too strenuous. We are also seeking more Events Committee volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering to help organize events and programming as part of a small but dynamic team, please send a message of interest to [email protected]. If you’re daunted by the thought of a large time commitment, don’t be – we can work together and offer considerable flexibility. Get in touch and be part of a creative, fun group!

Thank you to everyone for your support of the Somerset Bridlewood Community Association in 2025 – it was wonderful to see you at events, connect with you on social media and via emails, and chat with you at our monthly meetings. We appreciate everyone who committed time, talent, and energy to volunteering with us and look forward to inspiring more community spirit this year!
