Hello Southwood!
I don’t know about you, but spring is my favourite season of the year, minus the allergies of course! I love seeing nature come to life and the beautiful colours that emerge as the weather warms up.
Southwood Community Association will be hosting our Annual General Meeting on Thursday, June 8, starting at 7:30 pm. You can attend in person at 11 Sackville Dr (we will have refreshments) or online via Zoom. Meeting ID: 288 454 5027. Passcode: CA.
This year, I will be entering my eighth year acting on the board of directors and I have decided to step down as president and move into the past president role. Being part of the community association has been a wonderful experience and I have been very grateful for the opportunities that have presented themselves. If you have been considering joining the board of directors, this is your opportunity! The meeting is open to all Southwood community members that currently hold a household membership. Remember, memberships are free this year, so please register today at Southwoodconnects.ca/membership.
If you are interested in joining, we will be looking to fill the following vacancies: president (10 hours per month) vice president (10 hours per month), treasurer (5 to 10 hours per month), and director-at-large (maximum 5 hours per month). If you have any questions about these positions and the time commitments, please connect with me, Becky, at [email protected]. We will also have more information available on the community website.
Springwood Paint the Pavement!
Last year, Max Webber and a team from the University of Calgary worked with residents on Springwood Drive to find ways to help calm traffic along the road. After much discussion, it has been decided to test a traffic calming initiative by painting the pavement!
Celebrate Neighbour Day on Saturday, June 17 on Springwood Drive! Unleash your inner artist and help us bring life to the street by painting our new community mural on the road. Everyone is welcome to join in on painting and other activities from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Check out our Facebook page and website at Southwood Connects closer to the date for more information. See you then, neighbour!
To find out how you can help volunteer, please email the director of traffic and development at [email protected]. Participants under 18 must have a signed waiver by their legal guardian available at the event or online, as per City or Calgary regulation. In the event of poor weather Paint the Pavement will be moved to June 24. On-street parking is not available; please consider alternate modes of transportation.
A friendly reminder that June 15 will be our last meeting before heading into the summer break. The meeting is open to community members. Join us in person at 7:00 pm at the Southwood Community Hall (11 Sackville Dr SW).
Take care,
Becky
