We are proud to announce that St. Stephen School and the Southwood community will be getting a new playground for the summer of 2026! The School Council found out in August that we were successful in getting the CFEP matching grant which means we are very nearly at our fundraising goal of $300K.

With input from the school community we have selected BDI Play Designs to develop an inclusive playground design which will be the first playground in Southwood with wheelchair accessible surfacing along with other elements that prioritize inclusion. St. Stephen School Council would like to thank our partners the Calgary Catholic Foundation and Parks Foundation Calgary for their help in applying for grants and fundraising for the new playground.

Our new playground will be possible thanks to the Alberta Blue Cross Build Together Grant, The Parks Foundation Building Communities Grant, the ConnectFirst Neighbourhood Grant, the Government of Alberta Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP); and from generous donations by Enbridge, Sanjel Energy Services, and the Knights of Columbus; along with strong support from our community in fundraising efforts. We are so grateful!

With continued support of our fundraising efforts and donations for another school year we will raise the $300K needed for playground installation next summer. Watch for updates on our website or contact St. Stephen School Council with questions or for more information.
