We live in such a beautiful community, which in the past, has seen very low crime rates. I know that I have often felt that Springbank Hill is a cocoon, where nothing bad would ever happen. Well, times are changing, and we are seeing individuals coming into our community that may be in crisis or who are intent on committing a crime.
I had a wonderful conversation with Constable David Prajoux, our City of Calgary Community Liaison, about the number of instances that I have seen in our neighbourhood. He gave me some very wise advice, “If something doesn’t look or feel right in your neighbourhood, it probably isn’t. Trust your instincts!”
A great example of trusting your instincts is a new neighbour, she is a busy mom and a professional. She was on a Sunday morning walk by the stairs that lead down to Springbank Drive SW. She noticed a woman with a baby carriage coming up the stairs and wondered if she needed help. As she got closer, she noticed that the carriage was full of Amazon boxes. She realized something was wrong and called the police. The City of Calgary Police apprehended the individual thanks to my new friend’s quick action!
Constable Prajoux also gives us this advice:
• If an emergency or crime is in progress, call 9-1-1 immediately.
• For non-emergencies please call 403-266-1234.
• Do not approach the individual who may be committing a crime or may be suffering from addiction/in crisis.
So, be aware and be mindful of what might be happening in our community. If it doesn’t feel or look right, it probably isn’t. We have a beautiful community, let’s keep it safe!
