This is a reprint from 2022 with some important information for cyclists.
Constable Prajoux, our community resource officer with the Calgary Police Service has shared with our board members a useful website to assist with finding stolen bicycles. The website is called Bike Index Registration – www.bikeindex.org.
Here’s How It Works:
1. Visit www.bikeindex.org and register your name, bike manufacturer, serial number, and component information for each of your bikes.
2. If your bike is lost or stolen simply go to the website and report your bike as stolen. The Bike Index community, including the City of Calgary Police will be notified through the website.
3. If a Bike Index community member or partner (including CPS) find your bike, they will go onto Bike Index to identify your bike and contact you so that you can recover your bike.
Often the police cannot find the owner of stolen bikes that are recovered, and the registry goes a long way in bringing the bike and its rider back together again. Check it out if you are an avid cyclist in our community! A reminder as well to always lock your bike with a suitable lock to a bike rack to avoid thefts in the first place.
