For anyone who has taken a walk recently or driven down Mystic Ridge Gate the past few months, you may have noticed a newer set of equipment on the corner next to the pathway system. This is a fit park specifically for parkour, where older teens and adults can practice their parkour skills. This space can also be used for certain fitness exercises involving bars or beams. We have been provided with some information on how this equipment can be used and would like to share with any residents who are interested in this area. There are two more fitness park stations planned for this area, and we will share more information on them with you once construction and development in that part of our neighbourhood is done.
Parkour Station 1: Skills
Here you can run, jump, and practice parkour! Try to combine movements to seamlessly flow through the space. This equipment is designed for play, but it is not a playground. It does not have the same certified safety requirements as a traditional playground, so use at your own risk. Check all surfaces for grip before you jump or swing and start slow. Conditions may vary depending on the season. Try some common moves described below and have fun!
Balance
Your arms can counterbalance forward momentum and help “stick” your landings. Practice upright neutral postures while navigating rails or beams to improve your balance
Jump
Jump over a gap, up onto or over an element, or jump to enter dynamically into a new movement. Practice precision jumps by “sticking” the landing with both feet.
Cat Leap
Land feet first to absorb the force ending in a hanging position. Cling to the top edge of a wall while using your feet to brace against a vertical surface.
Bar Swing
Swing from a bar by your hands and release to cover a distance. During the release, actively push away from the bar.
Wall Climb
Climb between two points on a wall using improvised or provided hand and footholds.
Vault
To vault is a way to pass over objects between knee and chest height. Vaulting can be separated into lowline (when one hand or foot is always in contact with a surface) and highline (when there is no contact with the surface and you become briefly airborne).
Bars and beams pictured can be used for bar swings and balance, blocks on the ground can be used for jumps and vaults.
Wall pictured can be used for cat leaps, vaults, and wall climbs.
