Summer is here, time to be outside and enjoying it. Our Stampede breakfast is July 8, first come first served, till the food runs out. Hope to see you all there.
You may notice a new face around our facilities over the summer. Last year’s summer student experience was a good one, so we applied for and got a grant. Say hello to Eric if you happen to see him working. Our Board of Directors does not meet over the summer, but our office staff will be working hard to support the various events and programs. The next board meeting is September 12.
We are planning some lighting upgrades to our facilities over the summer, though we don’t have specific timing yet. This may mean making some short-term adjustments to room rentals, or closing off some areas while the crews are working. We ask for your understanding as this happens.
Our tennis and pickleball courts, the basketball courts, and the skate park on Woodborough Road make up a popular facility. However, we’ve been experiencing increasing vandalism there, such as graffiti and property damage. This costs money to remediate, and that’s money that can’t be spent on other programs or events. We ask that our facilities be treated with respect and that any damage be reported right away. There are reports that some park users have been experiencing harassment or bullying. The police are aware of our concerns; please call them if you see any incidents. This helps us build a case for increased patrols.
In that same area, we have been asking the City to install a crosswalk between the bike path and the sidewalk, right on the corner of Woodborough Road. The City offered to install bump outs instead. As I write this, they look a little bare, but we are planning to decorate that area. If you’re interested in contributing, please contact our office.
