Hello Woodcreek!

Our police liaison, Cst. Chad Raush attended our recent board meeting. I’m pleased to report that our crime statistics are significantly down compared to the same period last year and the overall running average. This includes reductions in car thefts, car prowlings, and break-and-enter incidents. However, it’s important to remember that these statistics only reflect what is reported to the police. They base their activities on this data, so we urge everyone to report even minor crimes, as it may help resolve more serious cases.

In emergencies, people know to call 9-1-1 for the appropriate response from police, fire, or ambulance services. For non-emergency situations, there are several options:

Non-emergency phone line: 403-266-1234 for all public safety matters and reports of crimes not in progress.

Online reporting: Visit Calgary Police Service’s online reporting page for incidents such as damage to property, lost property, theft, car prowlings, attempted stolen vehicle, theft of credit/debit cards used in fraud, and break-and-enter into unlocked premises other than residential.

Non-injury auto collisions: These can be reported in person at the local district office. For us, that is District 6, located at 8325 Bonaventure Drive SE.

Some of you may have heard about recent incidents in our community. Our shed near the tennis courts was broken into, although nothing of value was stolen, and two small windows in the main doors to our hall were smashed by a vandal, though they did not gain entry. These incidents required emergency repairs to secure the doors, and service calls for actual repairs and replacements. While the costs are frustrating as they detract from funds for other services, they weren’t significant enough to justify an insurance claim. Both incidents were reported to the police, who responded promptly.

If you haven’t signed up for our Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 12, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, please do so if you’d like to attend. It’s always a lot of fun for the kids. Tara and her crew will be organizing it again this year.

We are continuing to move forward with the Community Betterment initiative, aligning these activities with our existing WCA services and activities. This initiative aims to build relationships and trust among residents, promoting communication channels for items of interest to immediate neighbours. We are still gathering people interested in participating and exploring potential communication avenues. Currently, Keith and Don are leading this initiative, but we are looking for someone to take it on. I’d be delighted to take an interested person out for coffee to discuss it in more detail.

Additionally, the next Good Food Box order is due on May 5, with pick-up scheduled for May 14. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get fresh produce at a great price! Our spring Community Cleanup will be held on Saturday, May 24.

Keith and Jen

President and 1st VP
