Hello Woodcreek!
We are well and truly into summertime in Calgary, complete with smoking hot sunshine during the day and evening showers. Get out and enjoy it while you can.
Our Stampede breakfast went really well. We believe about 800 people attended. A huge thank you to our organizer Carole, our staff, the many volunteers, and our sponsors. The event wouldn’t be possible without them.
The Woodcreek Wheels event was cancelled due to torrential rain. This has been rescheduled to September 13—hope to see you there!
Other August Highlights:
• Crafts and Games Thursdays: Every Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the community centre. Open to kids aged 6 to 14. Children aged 6 to 9 must be accompanied by an adult.
• Youth Summer Book Club: Join us at the community centre on August 14 and 28 from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. A great way for young readers to connect and share their love of books!
• Farm Stand Fridays: Fresh local produce available every Friday from 2:30 to 5:30 pm at the community centre. Come support local growers and enjoy the taste of summer!
• Ice Cream Social: Grab your bike/skateboard/scooter etc. and head over to the Woodborough Park Skate Park for a free Ice cream! August 14, 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
• Movie in the Park: Join us on August 23 at the community centre. Activities start at 8:00 pm, and the movie—A Minecraft Movie—begins at 8:45 pm. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks for a fun evening under the stars!
• Seniors’ Coffee Mornings: Join us at the community centre on the first and third Tuesdays of the month (August 5 and 19) from 9:30 to 11:30 am.
• Board Meeting: While the next official board meeting is scheduled for September 9, feel free to reach out if you’d like to get involved or have something to add to the agenda.
KPMG is conducting surveys about the effectiveness of the whole Calgary Engagement process. This has been on the minds of Calgarians recently. If you want to give feedback to KPMG, you can get more information and complete a survey here: https://engage.calgary.ca/engagementreview. The survey is open until August 22. There was an open house on July 8, which Linda and Keith attended. They were the only people there for two hours, so there was a really good conversation. There is another open house in our hall on August 25 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm. If you have concerns about the process or ideas for improvement, we urge you to attend.
The Good Food box order deadline is August 11 for August 20 pickup, and then September 8 for a September 17 pickup. It’s easy to donate a food box to the pantry.
