In some ways, September is the start of a new year. Most kids are back to school, and many of the programs at our community centre are starting up again. Check them out in our newsletter and join the ones you are interested in.
The trial run for the weekly farm stand has been a big success, selling out in an hour on the first day. Watch for them Mondays from 3:00 to 5:30 pm at the community hall, though not on September 4 for the long weekend. The Good Food Box order deadline is 4:00 pm on September 11, for a September 20 pick-up. Our Annual Garage Sale is happening on September 23.
There’s been some upgrades to our hall and other facilities. Eric, Tara, and Henry were finishing up repainting the basement as I write this. They’ve done a great job, and it looks so much brighter now! The new pantry is also well on the way to completion, and your eyes are not fooling you; Kevin and Henry updated the stain on The Woodlands entrance sign, and it looks great. Over at Woodborough Park we’ve upgraded the rink lighting to LEDs and replaced the battered shed doors. Watch for the new sign for the park. We also purchased a new power sweeper for the rink with the proceeds from the 50/50 draw. That will help our fabulous ice rink crew keep the ice in great shape. Thank you for your support!
It’s not too soon to think about our November AGM. The executive committee needs to start thinking about who would like to renew or not, our committee assignments, and who might be interested in joining the board. I’m delighted to meet with anyone considering joining the Board. Our next Board meeting is September 12 at 7:15 pm.
