Woodcreek Seniors held their annual Christmas Luncheon on December 10, 2024, at the Carriage House Inn. The 46 in attendance enjoyed the buffet and activities. Three guests were in attendance – Dan McLean Ward 13 Councilor; Patrick Poilievre, Community Liasson with Councilor McLean; and Marlene Danylenko, WCA staff. Councilor McLean presented his donated gift certificates for four local restaurants.
The Woodcreek Knitting group donated two afghans for the fundraising raffle. The other raffle items were a birch back scratcher from a craft sale vendor, a tree box of Belgian chocolates, and a Ghirdelli gift set with hot chocolate and cups. Gift certificates were awarded to three members in appreciation for their contributions during the year – Gloria Hughes, and Al and Anne Kostynuik. The knitting group made a presentation of $450 to the Seniors group, and $450 to the Woodcreek Scouts. Thanks to all members who have volunteered and supported the group in the past year.
Special thanks go to the following community members and businesses for their donations for the door prizes at the luncheon: Dan McLean Ward 13 Councilor; Nagwan Al-Guneid, MLA Calgary Glenmore; Carriage House; Shoppers Drug Mart; Oakridge Co-op; Woodbine Safeway; Tim Horton’s – Woodbine and Braeside; and Canadian Eatery. The Woodcreek Seniors greatly appreciate the continued support from these donors.
The Woodcreek Seniors’ meetings are resuming on January 21, 2025. Then, the meeting schedule returns to the first and third Tuesday of each month, and meetings begin at 9:30 am. We are extending an invitation to seniors in the community to attend one of our meetings. Come, meet us, have a coffee, and see what the group can offer. We welcome all seniors to our group.
