Woodcreek’s June Executive Message

As has been the case with most of the recent Executive messages, I will start this month’s by commenting on the fact that by the time this newsletter is printed, what we can and can’t do will likely have changed based on COVID-19 restrictions. We are trying to keep our web page and social media pages updated with the most current information. As I write this in early May, we have just hit pause on almost all activities, in the hopes of flattening the curve. Hopefully by the time the June Woodcreek Chronicle has reached your door, some of those restrictions may have been lifted.

What does that mean for the community association? Sadly, we have had to cancel the Seniors Garage Sale. This annual event is always highly anticipated, but organizers decided it was not the responsible decision to host the event at this time. We hope to be able to find another date in the future, so stay tuned. Many other activities continue to be restricted, so most of our regular events and programs have been put on hold for the time being.

It is not all bad news, however. The community cleanup on May 15 was given the green light, so we hope our neighbourhood was able to take advantage of this service again. We are still planning for a (modified) Stampede breakfast in July, and we are very much hoping restrictions will allow for that. The Good Food Box program has been a rousing success and we encourage you to continue to order the boxes when they become available.

As we look ahead to the fall, we are in search of a fundraising coordinator. Having faced a tough year financially, and not having been able to participate in a casino fundraiser, we are looking at potentially having to do some more pointed funding solicitation throughout the upcoming year. It would be a great way to get involved with the community centre, and the board and staff are all prepared to help you along the way. Please email the office if you are interested at [email protected].

A Few Friendly Reminders:

  • Please remember to buy or renew your membership. We truly would not have been able to function this year without the financial support we get from these and we are likely going to need them even more going forward.
  • Our pickleball and tennis courts are open for use. Memberships are required for access to all courts and bookings can be made directly online.
  • As a reminder to all users of the recreation area (including courts, skate park, and rink/basketball surfaces), please be sure to abide by all posted hours, clean up after yourselves, and be mindful of parking properly. We love our recreation spaces, and we want to keep them clean and in good shape for all of our users and neighbours.

As we head into summer in a few short weeks, we hope you are able to get outside and enjoy all that our beautiful community has to offer. Please also continue to support local businesses.

As always, we would love to hear from you. Please visit our website at www.woodcreekcommunity.ca or give us a call at 403-238-1611.
