President’s Message
Hello Discovery Ridge residents,
As your newly elected DRCA President, I thought I would share some of my background. My family and I have lived in the community since 2005, and our kids grew up here. We love the community and everything it has to offer, especially the friendly people. I have been on the DRCA board for three years, helping on the Special Events and Membership Committees. Over the years, I have been involved with a few not-for-profit organizations, and would say that the DRCA volunteer board is the strongest group I have seen in terms of focus, dedication, and community spirt.
For 2021, the Board has a few initiatives on the go. One key objective is to increase DRCA memberships, since they provide the Board with a stronger collective voice when working with the City and the Province on issues impacting our community. Second, memberships are the main source of recurring revenue for the DRCA to help cover operating costs such as insurance, audits, and facilities maintenance. Your $25 per year membership goes a long way in terms of keeping Discovery one of the most desirable communities in Calgary. Given COVID gathering restrictions, the DRCA has had to reimagine its events program. As a result, since November, we have held a few DRCA members-only online speakers series events, covering various topics. The attendance and feedback have been very positive to these virtual events. As the vaccine rollout continues and government COVID restrictions ease, the Board will be revisiting the potential to host a live event this fall. The DRCA is also working on several advocacy issues impacting trail and pathway connections from and to Discovery Ridge. As we make progress on these issues, we will keep you informed.
