Hello Hawkwood!

As we welcome December, I am looking forward to spending time with family and friends, and hope everyone has the opportunity to schedule some relaxation time for themselves as the year winds down!

It is also a good idea to check on those who may find this time of year to be difficult or lonely. Let’s all make a commitment to check in on our neighbours who we see less of during the colder months.

Thank you to all the HCA members and Hawkwood residents who came out to our Annual General Meeting at the Uplands Recreation Centre on November 26. The Board of Directors appreciated having the opportunity to provide a report on the HCA’s key achievements over the past year. In 2024, the HCA continued to build on our association’s previous successes, and I am grateful to all who contributed to HCA’s efforts to enhance the Hawkwood community. The full AGM report can be viewed on our website at hawkwoodca.com. My sincere thank you to the 2024 Board of Directors for all your contributions over the past year. I look forward to working with the board, our Facility and Program Coordinator, our LEAF Coordinator, and all our incredible HCA volunteers in 2025 who work tirelessly on programs, events, and initiatives for our community.

If you are looking forward to enjoying some crokicurl and skating at the Hawkwood Community Park this winter, be sure to check HCA’s website first for updates on the rink status. Scroll down on the main page to “Park Status Notices” – we will try our best to keep these notices up to date, so look here before heading to the park. We ask for your patience as the Winter Maintenance Team are volunteers and it takes time to build up solid ice surfaces. Over the season, the rinks may also need to close if a chinook blows in to ensure the surface remains safe for all. A huge thank you to the Winter Maintenance Team for all their efforts to provide this great recreational amenity to Hawkwood residents. If you like the convenience of being able to skate in your own neighbourhood and want to be part of the dedicated team of volunteers who make this happen, please email [email protected]. Training is provided!

I extend my best wishes to all Hawkwood residents for the holidays and wish you all a healthy, happy, and peaceful New Year. Please send me an email at [email protected] if you have any questions, comments, or want to learn more about the HCA.

In gratitude and kindness,

Michele del Valle
