Hello Hawkwood!
This month, we are gearing up for the HCA’s Annual General Meeting, which will be held at the Uplands Recreation Centre on Tuesday, November 25. The doors open at 7:00 pm and the meeting will get underway at 7:30 pm. All community members are welcome to attend, but to vote on any of the motions, you must be a current member of the HCA. The HCA is a volunteer organization overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors focused on its mission to build community; provide gathering places; create connections through recreational, social, and cultural opportunities; and foster an environment of collaboration and respect for all. Elections for the Board of Directors are held at the AGM. The commitment includes holding a valid HCA membership; attending monthly board meetings; supporting HCA special events and fundraising activities; and carrying out responsibilities aligned with the position descriptions, bylaws, and policies.
I will be stepping down from the President position at this year’s AGM. Having served four years on the board and almost three years in the President position, it is time to open up this opportunity to other HCA members who are interested in advancing new community-building ideas. I will continue in a Past-President capacity in 2026 to help a new President transition into the role. The new President will be supported by a strong executive team in the Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary, who are all staying on in their roles in 2026. The majority of the 2025 Board of Directors have also advised of their interest in volunteering in the coming year – also a great asset to the new President. The only question left to answer is who will fill this role? This is a call to action to those in the community who love Hawkwood and want to take a central role in overseeing the direction of the HCA!
In addition to the President role, the HCA board is also looking for volunteers to fill the following vacancies in 2026: Membership, Hawkwood School Liaison, and Director at Large.
