Hawkwood’s President’s Message for September

Hello Hawkwood!

Welcome to September! I hope everyone had an opportunity to enjoy August, spending warm summer evenings with family and friends. With our community schools up and running, a friendly reminder to all residents to be aware of the children on school days at pick-up/drop off times along Hawkwood Boulevard and Hawkstone Drive. We also appreciate the parents/guardians for being mindful of the schools’ neighbouring homes and businesses when parking to pick up/drop off your kids. I wish everyone a wonderful start to the school year.

As you may have seen on our social media channels and website last month, the HCA was pleased to announce that Alexandra Campbell was hired to the position of Facility and Program Coordinator, following Heather Kovach’s resignation from the Programs Coordinator role on June 30. It was lovely to see many notes of gratitude to Heather from Hawkwood community members on HCA’s social media channels acknowledging her many contributions over the years. Please join the HCA Board in welcoming Alexandra to her role as she sets out to build on Heather’s foundational work. Alexandra can be reached at [email protected].

HCA’s Events Committee is gearing up for HCA’s Fall Festival and Market, being held at the Hawkwood Community Park Saturday, September 21 from 4:00 to 9:00 pm. All the details can be found on HCA’s socials and our website at hawkwoodca.com. This year’s event promises to be as much fun as last year, so be sure to check out Hawkwood’s local vendors, dance to the live band, and enjoy some cold beverages for sale while checking out some of the other surprises the Events Committee has in store for everyone. Please also sign up for a short volunteer shift while you are there – the shifts are set up to allow volunteers to work for a short period and still have plenty of time to enjoy the festivities with friends and family.

I also encourage all Hawkwood homeowners to read our LEAF Coordinator’s submission in this newsletter about the upcoming LEAF levy vote, scheduled for October 8, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the Uplands Recreation Centre. Our community is very fortunate to benefit from this program – the flower displays are a welcome sight during our growing season and our parks and pathways are well-maintained for everyone’s enjoyment. Please plan to vote.

Following up on my August submission, there are vacancies on HCA’s Board of Directors. To find out more about serving our community in this capacity, please email me at [email protected].

To celebrate the HCA’s 40th anniversary, we continue to recognize our volunteers. This month, I would like to acknowledge and thank our board volunteers who took on extra duties to fill in while we recruited for the Facility and Program Coordinator role. I very much appreciate your efforts to volunteer your time in filling the gaps to take on duties that are normally performed by a paid position.

Please send me an email at [email protected] if you have any questions, comments, or want to learn more about the HCA.

In gratitude and kindness,

Michele del Valle
