Hello Hawkwood!
Welcome to September! With our community schools up and running, a friendly reminder to be aware and vigilant during pick-up/drop off times along Hawkwood Boulevard and Hawkstone Drive. Let’s also work together to be kind and respectful to everyone who lives, works, or drives by these areas during these busy times. I wish everyone a wonderful start to the school year.
Below is a summary of some of the great things that HCA brought to Hawkwood the past few months:
• A beautiful Little Free Library, built by the 278 Guides/Pathfinders, was installed in Hawkwood Community Park to create a lovely reading nook near the courts for all to enjoy. Please support this project by dropping off gently read books of any age groups.
• The very successful community soccer program wrapped up in June. This year, a U10 and Women’s league was added to the program with much success! A huge thank you to soccer director Trish and the parent volunteers who contributed to this year’s program.
• HCA’s Programs Coordinator, Alexandra partnered with STANCE Basketball to offer an inaugural weekly summer basketball program for 6 to 17-year-olds. Many thanks to Alexandra and Coach Jeff for making this happen!
• Alexandra also worked with sponsor Melissa Kost Realty to organize the annual Parade of Garage Sales that saw over 80 Hawkwood households participate.
• HCA was awarded a Community Cleanup event from The City of Calgary on July 12. The Arbour Lake Community Association partnered with HCA to run a very organized event. A sincere thanks to all the Hawkwood and Arbour Lake volunteers, and to Alexandra and HCA Director at Large Andre for organizing and overseeing the Cleanup.
• The very popular City of Calgary Mobile Skate and Scoot returned to the Hawkwood Community Park rink July 31 to August 12. Thank you to Counsellor Wyness and her office for the Ward Counsellor Event Fund grant to offset the costs of running this community-wide program.
Hawkwood’s Community Garden and the Pickleball Group also saw new and continuing members this season to offer an enjoyable experience for all.
HCA is committed to providing a host of cultural, recreational, and social gatherings for our community and are always interested in hearing from residents about our programs and events. Please send me an email at [email protected] if you have any questions, comments, or want to learn more about the HCA.
In gratitude and kindness,
Michele del Valle
