It has been a productive few weeks for the WHM Powerline Committee. Following the December open houses, we met with ENMAX on Monday, January 26, to discuss survey results and the project’s next steps.
Community Consultation Results
ENMAX shared feedback from approximately 40 written surveys, 50 feedback maps, and 90 online responses. The community’s stance is clear: there is strong support for an underground route or along the 16th Avenue corridor.
Top priorities identified include:
• Preserving neighbourhood appearance and safety.
• Minimizing impacts on future development.
• Addressing concerns regarding visual clutter, tree removal, and construction traffic.
Updated Project Timeline:
• ENMAX has delayed the release of proposed routes from early Q1 to April.
• May: Additional open houses for community input.
• Q3: Presentation of revised routes.
• Q4: Project filing for Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) review.
ENMAX is currently exploring alternative route options; we expect more details at the May open houses.
Committee Strategy and Advocacy
We recently consulted with former City Councillor Evan Woolley, who successfully advocated for the Beltline Transmission Line to be placed underground in 2018. His expertise is helping us refine our opposition to potential above-ground routes through our parks and streets.
