Winston Heights-Mountview’s Community Cleanup

Thanks to our amazing volunteers, the Community Cleanup on September 6 was a huge success. This was one of our busiest years ever, with cars lined up to offload junk right up until the very last moment. We are so grateful to have a crew of experts who consistently come out to help at this event, and this year we were also thrilled to have some new faces in the mix. We can only hold events like this because community members so generously share their time and talents to make them happen. We also acknowledge the huge role that the City of Calgary plays in the day. Each year they send three garbage trucks and three amazing drivers to support the event. North Hill Co-op gets a big thanks too for supplying the donuts and snacks that kept us fueled for the day.

And luckily for us, the Crescent Heights Cowboys Football team was on hand to lend some enthusiasm and muscle. They held a bottle drive at the cleanup to raise funds for their team, while simultaneously volunteering to help unload trash from cars and feed it into the city garbage trucks. They also had a hand in diverting reusable items from the city trucks to the Drop-In Centre. Go Cowboys!

Thanks again to all our volunteers for safely managing all those cars, and for unloading all those couches and all the junk, and for giving people a safe, local spot to send their used technology and weird metal stuff. Thanks for helping to collect the estimated 10,000 plus kilos of garbage that got hauled out of Winston Heights Mountview.

Volunteers make the world go around!
