Parkland Hall’s 40th Birthday Celebration
Our celebration was a huge success. Community members were able to mingle outside and enjoy the food, entertainment, memorabilia, face painting and visit by our Mayor! Music entertainment was provided by the Lumber Jack band and their music was enjoyed by all.
As always, our events would not be possible without the involvement of those who donate their time and efforts. Thank you:
- Richard Gotfried, our MLA and long-time Parkland resident – who’s office donated Spolumbo’s sausages, buns, and loaned the use of some tents.
- Christina Steed and Parkland CA board members who served up sausages and cake!
- Yoki Nicol and her assistant, Vicky Bogstie, who donated a large cake for the first 100 residents.
- Pat Teed and Jill Vaters who sold hoodies – some still available folks – and memberships.
- Julie Kyliuk who was our MC and she did a fine job!
- Prince of Wales kindly loaned us the use of their archival materials. Thank you, Shelly Gelfand; Principal and Jayne Benham Student Council President.
- Organizing committee; Erika Diaz, Janice Schneider; Leanne Black, Mari Anne Godlonton, Julie Kyliuk, Allan Boswell, Maxine Overacker, Sunil Bagwe, and Nicole Homick.
- Harvest International Baptist Church who sang Oh Canada, hymns, and helped set-up.
- Community members who helped set-up and take-down
Thank you all!!
To mark 40 years and provide a snapshot of what is happening in our community in 2021, the community association purchased a time capsule. Placed in this time capsule were resident memory notes, news articles, photographs of events, a newspaper for September 11, and COVID items; a mask and sanitizer. (How could we not)! This time capsule is to be opened on September 12, 2056.
Mark that date!
