A Piece of History: Midnapore
Midnapore, steeped in rich history, stands as a historic gem within Calgary. This vibrant community offers access to a picturesque lake, proximity to Fish Creek Provincial Park, and the renowned Bow Valley Ranche. Midnapore, an idyllic and budget-friendly neighbourhood, is tailor-made for families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
Originally named Fish Creek, it is rumoured that the community got its current moniker when a letter addressed to the postmaster in Midnapore, India, found its way into the local mail, prompting a name change.
The historic Bow Valley Ranche, founded in the 1870s by John Glenn and later expanded by prominent figures like Patrick Burns one of the founders of the Calgary Stampede, remains a testament to Calgary’s pioneer heritage. Today, this legacy continues at the Bow Valley Ranche House, a beautifully restored Victorian English style mansion.
