Nolan Sage Hill’s President’s Message for October

Last month, the Board decided to change the date we normally meet from the second Tuesday of the month to the first Wednesday of the month. This was due to personal scheduling conflicts with some of our board members. In addition to this change, we also lost two directors: our Secretary Melissa and our treasurer Anh.

Like many of our neighbouring associations, the pandemic has gutted us of volunteers. Many have chosen to spend more time on themselves, with family, or at work, and unfortunately, the desire to give back to the community is at an all-time low. Sage Hill has also fallen victim to the news stories surrounding the Residents Association over the summer. As a result, we are very low on board members, volunteers, and membership, and need to recruit or risk dissolving as a society. We are looking for: a Treasurer, a Secretary, event planners, fundraisers, grant writers, vocal advocates, also ice rink and community garden focused individuals to help continue the work of the Community Association. Please, if anyone out there has an interest in serving their community, building their resume, being more involved in our community, and helping to improve all things Sage Hill, put your name forward by emailing [email protected].

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Symons Valley “Movie in the Park” which showed Big Hero 6 on September 17. Symons Valley Park is the designated recreational amenities site for the communities of Sage Hill, Nolan Hill, Sherwood, and Kincora. Currently, the Symons Valley Park Society is in a multi-year fundraising effort to construct various recreational amenities such as a play structure, outdoor ice rink, tennis and basketball court, fire pits, and an amphitheater.

Christmas is only eight weeks away and we are seeking sponsors and collecting prizes for our fourth Annual Christmas Light Display Contest. If you live in Sage Hill, have a business, and want to be a title sponsor and/or donor, please email [email protected]. Typically, the prizes range from $50 to $500, and the contest receives over 80,000 impressions between social media and our newsletter. The odds of winning a prize are about 1 in 5 based on previous years. To enter as a participant, you must be a member of the Sage Hill Community Association by purchasing an annual $26.50 membership on our website, www.sagehillyyc.com. Simply select ‘Members’ and ‘Register’, then fill out the e-form with your information and enter a card for payment. We really need your support now more than ever.

Thank you,

Ross Utigard
