The quick rundown:

  1. Christmas Market
  2. Thank Yous
  3. Shinny

Howdy Rosemontians! I hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe. I would definitely say that winter came in like a wrecking ball in November. Cue the music as it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

If you are getting this newsletter before December 3, come get your holiday gifts at the second annual Rosemont Christmas Market on Saturday December 3, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the hall. We have about 14 vendors (including some fellow Rosemontians!), drinks, snacks, and music to get you in the holiday mood. If you came last year, you’ll know that there was a great mix of vendors. It’s free to attend so bring the whole family! Masking is optional (assuming that there is not a public health order as I’m writing this about a month beforehand).

A huge thank-you to Jacquie and the team at Workshop Theatre, as well as to the amazing folks at Rosemont School for putting together a terrific Halloween Party on October 28. There was a long line to get into the haunted house because it was so popular, great food trucks, face painting, and more. I heard nothing but amazing things, so huge props to everyone on a great event and we’re so happy to have such wonderful friends at the school and Workshop Theatre. This will be a definite repeat next year!

Thank you to everyone who attended our AGM, either virtually or in person. It was great to provide an update on what has gone on this past year. If you would like additional information, or were not able to make it, shoot us an email.

The ice guys are in full swing, getting the rinks ready for another amazing winter of skating and hockey. If you want to freeze your buns off and have a great time, shoot me an email ([email protected]) and I’ll put you in contact with Captain Kurt.

We’ve been asked if shinny is running this year. It is a tentative yes, but we can’t put on programs without volunteers like you. Notably, we need hockey-minded folks who want to help coach the program as Grant may not be able to help the whole time. Anyone who has attended can attest to how much the kids love it, so if you have a couple hours to spend Tuesday nights, consider helping out. Please email us and we can put you in contact with Grant and Jean.

The program is scheduled for January 10 to mid-March, or until there is no more ice, running from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on Tuesday nights. Ages 6 to 12 and all skill levels are welcome. The cost will be $30/player and community membership (from any community). Everyone is welcome (please contact us if financial reasons may be preventing you from participating). Call Jean Blackstock at 403-305-9447 to register or email at [email protected]. If you live in Rosemont, membership is free so go to RosemontCommunity.com/Membership to sign up.

It’s a tough time out there for a lot of people, particularly due to inflation. During this time, consider your fellow citizens in Rosemont and around the city who may not have the same access to food, warm clothing, and shelter that you may have. Be generous with your time and resources this holiday season. Community comes in all shapes and forms so be sure to spread the love of community to all those around you.

Happy holidays everyone. See you in the snow and on the ice!

P.S. Don’t drink and drive.

Matthew
