I was puttering in the MCA Centre’s south field early October, and I watched Montgomery’s mating pair do a series of very lazy and slow flying figure eights as they headed southeast.
They usually flew fast, and with purpose, so it made me stop, and pay extra attention to their ballet.
A couple of hours later, this year’s single youngster returned to the now empty nest, and the screeching and howling began… for a couple days. Which certainly made me “pay extra attention”, too.
And then… quiet.
I wish all three of them well on their journeys south.
I am saddened, and I selfishly wish this particular mating pair of raptors had a home beside us again in the summer of 2025, I will be honest. But maybe it was time they moved away from the 16 Avenue traffic to a quieter pole top condo.
