ECCA Membership Rewards Program

We have 19 businesses who are a part of the ECCA Membership Rewards Program. Discounts at these businesses are available for all ECCA members who show proof of membership. For the current list of discounts, visit www.eccacalgary.com.

Any household can become an ECCA member at www.eccacalgary.com/register. This will pay for itself in two or three visits. Tell your friends, neighbours, and family to become a member – even if they live afar. There are lots of savings with this program and there is more to come.

Community FYI – Evanston and Creekside signs

• Signage and flora in Evanston were the responsibility of the developer(s).

• The ‘Evanston’ and ‘Creekside’ signs (and flowerbeds) that you see along Symons Valley Parkway at Evanston View and Evanspark Boulevard are the responsibility of the homeowner who borders those structures. When, not if, those signs fall into disrepair, it is up to the homeowner to repair and replace. It is essentially private property despite what appears to be a public sign/flowerbed. If the homeowner chooses not to fix or upkeep (which can cost in upwards of tens of thousands of dollars), there is nothing anyone else can do including the City and community association.

• If you decide to go paint or replace letters on the signs (even on a charitable basis), the homeowner could charge you with trespassing. This sounds very odd, but it is a quirk of City of Calgary communities. Also, the homeowner can take down that sign entirely or they could paint it a different colour, much to the likely dismay of many, but within their right and nobody else’s.

• Adding new flora or new signs in and around Evanston today faces two notable hurdles: (1) location – City land, as it stands, will not permit these due to infrastructure already in place plus there are safety concerns such as sightlines for vehicles and minimum requirements for intersections and sidewalks; and (2) the significant cost for signs and flora. Whilst we appreciate that residents would like to see more signs at entrances into Evanston, we hope you can understand the challenges to do so.
