As we enter the Fall season I am so pleased that our government remains steadfast in our commitment to a $15/hour minimum wage because we know who’s benefitting from the minimum wage increase – it’s women, it’s single parents, it’s families who are working more than two full time jobs but who were still struggling to put food on the table and pay their rent.
Cannabis will be become legal across Canada on October 17, and our government has built a system for legalized cannabis that is focused on keeping cannabis access and sales safe and ethical, and protecting Alberta’s roads, workplaces and public spaces. Though our legislation manages legalized cannabis in Alberta with health and safety top of mind, the legalization of cannabis does not mean our work will not be over. Our government will be watching closely to ensure our legal cannabis system—developed following extensive engagement with Albertans and stakeholders—is working, and we will make changes as necessary.
Session also resumes at the end of October and to mark the occasion I want to invite you and your neighbours to my 4th Annual Pre-Session Office Open House. Please join me at 2108 B – 33 Avenue SW on Friday, October 26 from 4:30PM to 6:30PM for some local Mojo’s Pizza. You are welcome to come in your best Halloween garb (there might even be prizes). If you are unable to catch me then, you can find me at one of the many Remembrance Day events held in early November.
Stay well.
