Yahoo! Although the Prairie Winds 4-H Club officially ended the club year on June 15th, members continued having fun over the summer with Stampede-related activities and Provincial 4-H Summer Camps.

As part of an annual fundraiser, the Prairie Winds 4-H Club members design and decorate an office downtown for Calgary Stampede week. Not only is it a unique way to get into the Stampede Spirit, but it continues to connect our members to the community while raising funds for the club. The favourite decoration this year was the addition of the “sleeping cowboy.”

Another Stampede-related activity took place in July at the Calgary Stampede Kitchen Theatre Stage. David T (Hawkwood resident) along with fellow members Summer D, Brynn L and Amy J demonstrated how to make homemade fudge brownies. While showing the audience how to make this yummy treat, they also explained the steps for preparing the food. After the demonstration, viewers were able to taste the treats because the 4-H members had made samples to hand out along with recipe cards.

4-H Summer camps at the Alberta 4-H Centre in Battle Lake are another highlight for members. Our club members attended several different weeks this year, so we look forward to hearing their exciting camp stories once we meet again in the fall!

The Prairie Winds 4-H Club will gather again on Friday, September 20th when we host an Open House Ice Cream Social at the Crowfoot Co-Op Community Room from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. This informal social is the perfect opportunity to find out more information on the club, view the calendar for the year, meet our members and ask questions. Please email Lori Nielsen at prai¬[email protected] with any questions or to RSVP.
