Been a couple months since I wrote. By now we would have had our AGM. We have had a few people step down, thank you for donating your time to help out the community. A few people are switching roles, and hopefully a few new folks will have joined the board.
We also had the new fence installed for our Day Care Program we are introducing. Just a few more hurdles to clear so we can get the program running. Sorry to all that are waiting for us to open. Thank you to everyone that have worked on this project to make it happen.
The City are also taking steps to fix a problem with the skatepark by installing a drywell to help with drainage. We will be doing our part to help bring the province to fiscal responsibility. We have found out our CFEP grants will be reduced by 30%. Although this does effect projects at the centre, I feel the short-term pain is worth the long-term gain. As we all know, it is never easy to reduce our debt load, so hats off for one of our levels of government for tackling this.
Sue Mitchell has been working hard at Memberships, getting us further discounts for cardholding members to receive discounts at local businesses. Please check out our website for a full list. She is also meeting with Deer Ridge, Queensland and Parkland to exchange names of businesses that support them to see if we can’t adopt all vendors for residents of all our communities.
We will be having our Casino at Deerfoot Inn and Casino February 6 and 7, 2020. If you’ve helped in past or wish to help work it, please contact the centre to add your name. This goes a long way to helping us keep the doors open.
Upcoming Events:
December 1: Kids Christmas Party
February 22: Annual Skate Party
March 28: Fun Casino and Silent Auction
April 5: Kids Easter Party
We can always use more volunteers for the Rink Ratz crew to maintain the ice rink. Not to mention volunteers for the above events. Please contact the centre if you’re able to help.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Keep warm,
Kim Semeniuk
President
