It has been an interesting start to summer to say the least – because I am writing this message at the beginning of July and you get it in August, I must be careful. It seems that things can change overnight!

The SCA CA Office is open again, Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, but the front doors remain locked. You can contact the SCA either by phone, 403-249-1138, or email, [email protected]. Please do not knock on the doors without making an appointment; the cleaning protocols at the SCA are very stringent and we need to be mindful of the programs using the space. If you are looking for information about summer programming, events, or rental reservations, the SCA website has lots of information. You will also find a great group of volunteers on our website that stand ready to help you during these uncertain times.

We have two events planned for September! On Saturday, September 12, we are holding a Membership Drive, offering on-site document shredding, and a bottle drive in the SCA parking lot. If you have a current SCA family membership ($20 per family for a year) you can pull up in the SCA parking lot, pop your trunk, and let our volunteers deal with your shredding and empties! The SCA has suffered a near 100% loss of revenue over the last few months and proceeds from this membership drive will help us cover some fixed costs. For your convenience, I would recommend that you purchase or renew your membership before this event by visiting the SCA website at www.scacalgary.ca. Our thanks to our MP, Ron Liepert, for his support of this event!

On Wednesday, September 23, the SCA will hold its AGM. At the AGM, we will discuss the past year, future outlook and strategies, table the 2019 audited financial statements, and elect the SCA board members. We invite residents to attend and to consider becoming involved with the SCA CA.

The SCA CA wants to congratulate Michael Smith on the birth of his first son, Elliott Charles Smith! Michael has been an appreciated resource and supporter of the SCA for many years and we want him to know that we are thrilled for he and his wife!

It has not been easy navigating these COVID times. The SCA has been hit hard but we are slowly navigating our way back to a new normal. We are staying on top of all the cleaning and social distancing protocols (they seem to change daily) and I recognize that what is true today may look very different when this message gets to you. Be patient with us; we are doing our very best to make the SCA relevant in our community again.

Maureen Smith

SCA President
