This will be a short letter this time – reflecting the unusual summer we’ve being experiencing.
It’s certainly been quieter with many events not being held this year. The big one, of course, is Stampede but specifically for Eau Claire, we’ve missed the different seasonal festivals and events on Prince’s Island and the Eau Claire Plaza as well.
At least the coronavirus hasn’t stopped residents from getting out and enjoying the river pathway system. When doing so, we have to urge residents enjoying the parks and pathways to be diligent about maintaining social distancing and, if possible, wearing face coverings.
It’s also good to see, after the long months of being shut down, some of our favourite restaurants and other local businesses reopening. At the same time, it’s sad to see that some couldn’t survive the shutdown. That just emphasizes, again, the need for residents to do what we can to patronize local businesses and help them recover.
With so many activities curtailed, there’s not a lot of new news this issue, but our editor, Peg Oneil, has assembled some great photos of the neighbourhood for you to enjoy.
I also want to acknowledge the contributions to the ECCA Board of one of our members, Pam McWilliams, who has advised that she will be leaving the Board. Thanks again, Pam, for all your support.
And finally, a reminder to save the date, September 24, for the Eau Claire Community Association Annual General Meeting. Obviously, because of ongoing uncertainty about the coronavirus, that has to be a tentative date for now, but we’ll plan toward it. Assuming we can go ahead, I’ll look forward to seeing many of you there as we give you an update of developments in your community.
