The Shandro household is getting back to normal after a fun filled but frenetic Christmas and New Year’s celebration.
While I’m getting used to signing “2020” on letters, I want to wish you and your family a successful and fun new year. My goal as your MLA is to work to also make it a more prosperous year for you and all Albertans.
Part of this effort is focused on Red Tape Reduction. This is the idea that government regulations need to be routinely reviewed, as what might have been vital in 2000 may not be needed in 2020. I am committed to ensuring a balance to help you know government will monitor and regulate where needed but will get out of the way where it isn’t needed. The extreme examples are the easy ones. It’s where it gets closer to impacting your life that we need to move cautiously but remain philosophical about getting out of the way of doing business.
Over the Christmas holiday I was blessed to spend time with family and friends. Many feel better about Alberta just knowing the UCP and Jason Kenney are in Edmonton. But I want to remind you I wasn’t elected to help people “feel” better. I want people to be better. Particularly as Minister of Health, I have to ensure the system changes to better meet the needs of your family while ensuring the cost is appropriate. Costs need to be contained but health is also an expensive portfolio. You have the right to expect the system to be there when you need it and that is my goal.
