A New Board Member, and a Look Back at 2019
Congratulations to Maddie Bemrose who has been appointed Director of Transportation and Mobility. Maddie is looking forward to working with the RCA board, the city, and community members to address concerns in the neighbourhood and help to make it a safer place to walk, drive, bike or get around in general. If you would like to assist Maddie by joining the Transportation Committee or want to discuss your concerns in general, please feel free to email her at [email protected]. The RCA Board is excited that Maddie has jumped into this position!
As we work toward our goals for 2020, it’s also a good time to look back at some of the special moments and milestones of 2019.
RCA hosted several events in 2019. In addition to some tried-and-true events, like Adult Pub Nights, Bike Day, Jelly Bean Dances, Hot Chocolate with Santa, and, of course, the annual Stampede Breakfast and BBQ Saloon, the year also marked the return of the popular Easter Eggstravaganza, the Lego Competition, and Renbrewfest, plus the debut of Makers Mingle craft nights.
RCA continues to work on much-needed maintenance and upgrades at the hall to ensure it is viable for the future. The work has involved repairing the roof, foundation and exterior drainage; replacing flooring, furnaces and ceiling tiles; mold remediation; and more. There is still more to be done, including structural and electrical remediation, and resolving plumbing issues. The majority of the funding comes from municipal and provincial grants.
Here is a by-the-numbers look at the year 2019 in Renfrew:
- 2 election forums (one provincial and one federal)
- 4 trucks of garbage and organics collected at the annual Renfrew Clean-Up (not including items for donation, and electronics and metal recycling)taken by the electronics
- 8 Jelly Bean Dances held for students of all ages
- 15 responses submitted to residential and commercial development applications in Renfrew
- 23 families registered in the Tiny Tots drop-in program for preschoolers
- 237 volunteers pitching in at community events
- 1,580 hungry people enjoying pancakes at the annual Renfrew Stampede Breakfast
- 3,685 households receiving the Renfrew Reflections newsletter
- $290,000-plus toward urgent hall repairs and maintenance
