Why Telling Your Story Matters More Than You Think

Everyone has stories—about work, family, challenges, and small everyday wins. Learning how to share those stories clearly and confidently helps us connect with others and be better understood.

Here are three easy storytelling tips you can use right away:

1. Start with the Moment, Not the Moral

Instead of explaining the lesson first, pull people into a specific moment. Stories stick when listeners can picture themselves there.

2. Keep It Human

You don’t need dramatic events to tell a good story. Honest, relatable experiences are often the most powerful.

3. Practice Out Loud

Stories improve when spoken, not just thought about. Saying them out loud helps you find what flows and what can be trimmed.

If you’d like a welcoming place to practice storytelling, public speaking, and confidence, High Riser Toastmasters can help. We meet every Thursday from 7:15 to 8:15 pm at the Bridgeland-Riverside Community Association Centre, and guests are always welcome for free.

Come visit, listen, or participate—there’s no pressure, just opportunity.
