Replacing Renfrew’s Lost City Trees

Some City trees are dead or dying and need to be replaced. You may have noticed that many birches are in bad condition and some already have removal signs on them. We are collecting data on these trees, to ensure replacement. Let us know if you know of any in your area.

Beaumont Circus Improvements

We are trying to ensure that the Beaumont Circus reimagining honours both the historical and the natural aspects of the area. Please take every opportunity to encourage the planting of trees and greenery, in general, over concrete swaths.

Renfrew Park Naming Project

We are at the beginning stages of a project meant to identify and name the City parks currently in Renfrew. Some parks already have names identified with them, some names are official, some are not. We plan a great deal of community outreach in this regard, so stay tuned!

Retaining Greenspaces

With all the building going on in our community, we are attempting to identify and then secure any greenspaces from development. These are those spaces not identified as parks and so in greater danger of being lost.

Protection of Private Trees

There is currently no law enacted to protect trees on private land. The great majority of lots in Renfrew are completely razed of all trees and greenery for development. The existing bylaw for tree planting on infill developments is almost never followed. The good news is that a motion to implement new tools and incentives to encourage the retention, planting, and maintenance of trees on private property has been carried by City Council. No information on details or completion date yet but stay tuned.
