Eco: Battery Disposal

With so many electronics, gaming consoles, and devices these days, it’s no doubt that we are going through batteries like crazy! Did you know that batteries are never to be put in your garbage or recycling bin? This is because batteries get crushed and the chemicals in them can lead to fires at recycling or landfill sites. The cobalt and lead in them can also be very harmful to the earth.

However, although one-time use batteries and rechargeable batteries can be dropped off at local municipal sites, you can also discard them at local businesses that are becoming more eco-friendly conscious:

• The Source at North Hill Mall (#1734, 1632 14 Avenue NW)

• London Drugs (#33, 3630 Brentwood Road NW)

• Staples Canada (3909 University Avenue NW)

• Save on Foods (#6647, 4163 University Ave NW)

• Best Buy (#976, 5111 Northland Drive NW)
