Greetings neighbours and community!
I am currently still in Ontario as I am writing this November’s editorial. By the time you get this newsletter, I have probably already returned after a much-needed break with family. I hope that everyone enjoyed their Hallowe’en and their Thanksgiving. We are now approaching winter, and it seems like the summer and autumn flew by far too quickly. For those who enjoyed the photo of the peacock at our family farm, he has now lost his tail for the season and will grow a new one next summer.
I would like to welcome all the new members to the BTCA (Banff Trail Community Association), as well as returning members. Thank you to all the Banff Trail Members and neighbours for attending our September BTCA Annual General Meeting. Your participation is greatly appreciated. Farewell and a sincere thank you to the board members who have left, and a big warm welcome to Rolland Lequie, our new BTCA President. John Rowland has joined the BTCA as a new director. A very special warm welcome to Chris B., who will be taking on the role of our new Soccer Coordinator. Thank you, Andy Boothman, for your countless hours and for the direction you have given us this past year.
Although I was not present, word has it that this meeting was very well attended. I would like to thank you for voting me again as a director for the BTCA an additional year. I have only lived in Banff Trail for two years now and decided to volunteer for the community as soon as I moved in. I have been the editor for the Banff Trail Howler for a little over a year now. It is something I enjoy doing and I am very pleased at how the Howler has developed and taken shape in the last year.
The Banff Trail Casino is just around the corner. After much postponement, we are now having this fun-filled fundraiser on Monday, November 2 and Tuesday, November 3 at Cowboys Casino at Stampede Corral Area, 421 12 Avenue SW (near the Victoria Park Train Station). This fundraising event is critical to our ability to raise funds that go towards extra resources and improvements in our community. This revenue allows Banff Trail to continue to do fantastic things such as our Conversation Club (which is essential for our seniors), kids after-school programs, summer soccer camps, family martial arts classes, maintaining the ice rink, our community gardens, and our events. These funds make a huge impact. More details are in this issue.
Would you like to see a cycle track in your neighbourhood? Right now, there is a petition circulating Banff Trail to build a separated cycle track along 20 Avenue NW (from Banff Trail Train Station) to 4 Street NE (Mountainview School). More details are in this issue.
Do you have a Banff Trail Community Membership? At the 2018 AGM, your BTCA voted to set memberships to zero dollars. Yes, free! To get a membership, just provide your name, contact information, and let us know if you live within the Banff Trail neighbourhood boundaries to [email protected]. Memberships run from March to February and do not automatically renew. Please email to renew your membership for another year. For those interested in becoming a member for the first time, welcome!
If you have anything you’re interested in, don’t hesitate to get involved. Our meetings are always on the first Wednesday of the month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. These meetings are now online via video. Feel free to call 403-282-2234. You are more than welcome to attend! The Banff Trail Community Association consists of a pretty awesome group of neighbours who are here to make Banff Trail a great place to be.
Your editor for the Banff Trail Howler,
Ravenmoon Spicer
