Hidden Valley’s Vice President’s Message for December

HiddenValley mb

Hello, and happy December to our Hidden Valley Community Association members, Hidden Valley and Hanson Ranch residents, and our community neighbours. On behalf of the Board of Directors for the HVCA, we hope that your December is off to a great start.

At the start of November, we began the process of replacing the damaged rink boards. You may have seen our November newsletter update or news on our website www.hiddenhut.org or our Facebook site. If you haven’t been able to read those, here’s a quick summary:

The damage to the boards resulted from an unexpected weakness within the material itself. The HVCA’s rink was not the only community association that had this problem. The original supplier and installer for the boards are no longer in business, so we sourced replacement boards elsewhere. Eventually, all the boards will need to be replaced with new material. For the short-term, we are hoping the replacement boards and a workaround plan will get us through the winter season with an open rink.

Our HVCA Hockey Coordinator, Spencer W., has been doing a fantastic job organizing volunteers’ efforts, particularly with the tricky job removing the damaged boards. The Board extends our sincere gratitude to Spencer and his volunteers for their efforts.

With repairs ongoing, and our Hockey season about to start, we’re also looking forward to hosting Winterfest in January 2022. It has been far too long since we have been able to put on a community event. Our Winterfest celebrations have been a favourite of residents and members in prior years and the Board and volunteers are working hard this month to finalize the event for January 15.

This month I’d like to encourage you to be a Snow Angel during snowy days. When you’re clearing snow from the sidewalks, if you can shovel a neighbour’s sidewalk – and especially if you help clear snow for a neighbour who could use a little extra help – you are a Snow Angel. If someone has been a Snow Angel for you, you can create a thank you for them, or nominate them for recognition from the City by calling 311 or visiting the City of Calgary website at https://www.calgary.ca/csps/cns/seniors/snow-angels/snow-angels.html.

To close this month’s update, the Board and I want to thank you for helping us and your community through another difficult year. We send our best wishes to you for your happiness and health, and the well-being of your families and those you care most about. We hope that your year-end holiday celebrations and observances in 2021 have been, and will be, filled with joy and peace.
