Hidden Valley’s Vice-President’s Message for June

HiddenValley mb

Hello Hidden Valley and Hanson Ranch residents, neighbours, and members of the HVCA. June is the final month of the 2021-2022 term for this Board of Directors. The outgoing Board has made its plans for the next year – including summertime food trucks, the full rink board replacement, and our 25th anniversary celebration. But being able to turn those plans into reality will happen only with your help this month.

Beginning in June, the food trucks will be back every month through to September to raise funds for the H2 Spaces Park Space revitalization program. Based on analysis of last year’s events, the trucks will be set up in front of Valley Creek School on June 6 and then at the Hidden Hut on July 19, August 22, and September 27. The HVCA receives a part of each evening’s sales, and the Board – through the budget process – has committed to use those proceeds only for park space improvement.

Most of the fundraising for our capital projects (including parks and rink maintenance and improvement) is from the AGLC casino program – this year on June 24 and 25 for the HVCA. Volunteers from the community run the casino, and the HVCA receives a portion of the proceeds from the quarter. These restricted funds are used over two years – the minimum time permitted between casino events. If you haven’t yet signed up to volunteer, please check the hiddenhut.org website.

The most vital area where we need your help is at our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, June 18 at 2:00 pm at the Hidden Hut. If you are a member of the HVCA, you should be there to vote on the Board-recommended budget, which determines how the Board spends your membership fees, allocates grants to projects, and determines what kinds of activities and programs the HVCA can offer. More importantly, due to departures from the Board, we are seeking nominees during the AGM to stand for election and be part of the team that runs the Association.

Should there not be enough HVCA Members present for elections on June 18 to comprise a functioning Board per the association’s bylaws, then the Association is in real danger of ceasing operations. If that happens, the projects and events planned for the year after June will not happen, including a possibility that the rink will not be able to be repaired and then operated.

If you have ever wanted to make sure that the decisions of the HVCA reflect what matters to you, please plan on taking a break from your Neighbour Day celebrations to make your voice heard at the AGM by becoming a Board Member. More details about the AGM can be found on the HVCA website.
