Manager’s Meanderings
Sometimes, while oot’ n’ aboot supporting live musicians and the venues that support them, I get asked, “do you have children, Spike? You seem to like kids, and they seem to like you.â€
Short answer, “nope, none of my ownâ€.
But then I think about how blessed and grateful I am to be in a role that interacts with young minds not yet tainted and tarnished by the rest of us “adult†types. It is one of the truly best-est perks of my GM job at the MCA Centre.
I watch children getting flipped, and learning how to defend themselves from being flipped, with attentive guidance from world class martial arts instructors.
I witness children learning how to understand, and how to be understood, in a preschool lovingly taught by remarkable momma bear maestras.
I watch short children, and mid-sized children, and tall children and every darn size children become more confident, and 3†physically taller, with the passionate mentorship from their out of this world inline skate instructors.
I observe children learning magical and mystical rhythmic gymnastic movements, led by experienced and youthful coaches who are anything but routine.
I see older children becoming teens, learning firsthand about volunteerism and caring for others and travel and life from group leaders who truly lead.
I hear the mother goose rhyming and song singing of very little children, as they are laughing hard and learning new ways to have fun right alongside their parents, by their caring counsellors.
I watch children exponentially expand their balance and agility, mixed with the social interaction skills their superb soccer trainers impart.
So… I suppose my answer should be, “yup, I have a few childrenâ€.
I hope you all have a most amazing March, Montgomery. Teach your children well.
Spike
