Food sustainability. A very tall, wide, and deep-rooted conversation. Which is a good thing. Because we are again working with our friends at the MCA to share a full week of opportunities to connect and explore the concept.
This year’s Food Week Kick Off is September 20 at the MCA, 12:00 to 3:00 pm, comprised of a light lunch and an old-fashioned Bake Off. This is a family-friendly event, you are invited to involve yours with the conversation. We will collect non-perishable food donations to share with the Trellis and Children’s Cottage community pantries. And the conversation will begin.
Sunday, September 21, 5:00 to 7:00 pm, a Doc& Dine documentary and discussion evening upstairs at MCA. Carolyn from Green Calgary returns with another enlightening and interesting workshop in the MCA Centre kitchen Tuesday, September 23. MCA is hosting a special Seniors Brunch Wednesday, September 24. To close off the week, we will be hosting a Panel Night discussion and light meal at the MCA Centre Friday, September 26, 6:00 to 9:00 pm. Check out our social media for updated information and links to register!
For me, as a fellah who lives in a food-rich yet summer-short special space on our blue marble, and has worked in and travelled through numerous regions who are not so blessed, “Food Sustainability” is all about ensuring everyone has access to nutritious foods. It is the basis of a crucial human support system that balances both economic and environmental needs at the growth, production, and distribution levels. Mostly though, it is about ensuring the needs of all my world neighbours are met today, and well into our shared future. I hope to see you out at these September events, please do say hello!
